日本 in the house!
japanese moe-metal band "GALMET" came to visit Graz last tuesday ... and impressed their listeners together with KLYNT. ONe could say that the evening exceeded the high expectations!
Bare skin, sweat, muscles. The local mood forgers from KLYNT did their reputation justice, being the lovely bizarre party gang and "your mom's wet dream", as they claim. The Graz based thrashers did not only celebrate the true and very basic virtues of heavy metal (whooping it up, banging your head, playing soli on rolling antique wingchairs, destroying things on stage, pulling off ultra-virile pelvis swings) in their well-known manner, namely - epicly as fuck. They also pre-heated the hall for the international guests together with a steadily growing number of people.
The five lads around their sympathic front man Dadu with his witty and incredibly funny way of (inter)acting with the audience convinced with a terriffic atmosphere. Thanks to the competent people behind the mixing desks the audience additionally came to know the true promise of a great show - sound pleasantly pumping, but crystal clear and atmospheric lights, too helped a lot to an incredibly carefully prepared evening. The band therefore did not just look awesome and like a real-big-ass rock band during their acrobatic intermezzoes, they also sounded like one, if you ignore the little mistakes that come with such exercise. Whoever has been following the band over the last years will agree that this show is one of many documenting the band's great on-stage development and may look forward to the next one.
After a short beer-break that everyone earned really hard the ardently expected main act followed: Japanese all-female moe-metal band "Galmet"
Fitting a commonly known clichée the three women from Osaka, JP appeared in different whacky stage outfits, but were less anime characters than expected. With the first note a big fissure between their musical genre "moe" (jap. "sweet", "nice") and their actual performance became apparent - they really hit the audience hard.
Musically manouvering somewhere in the classics of Death Metal the three gals were technically convincing (especially the guitars) and showed some skill at improvising too. Their singer and founder of the band Miki had to stay in Japan for the tour due to a sickness and the band had to cope with not having their main vocalist with them. Which is why guitarist and drummer simply took over the growls. A slight disadvantage in communication between the stage and the audience emerged from that too; It ended up being broken J-english and shy giggling on one side and polite hooting after every other sentence, interested eye contact and friendly laughter for the band's efforts on the other one, basically hindering the band from transporting any profound messages to the audience.
This did not impair the evening in any way other than the actual amount of info that reached the crowd though. Galmet who can for sure be called a very exotic act brought some adept riffing on high-heels, a singing drummer (a little overstrained maybe) and some decently fat sound, considering the smaller wo-manning, onto stage. The actual attraction though was definitely the exciting mixture of preppy feminity, the band's far-away origin and the musical power they conveyed. Galmet managed to output everything to well-audible, but not overly agitated classic death metal.
After their show and two additional songs played for the excited crowd the girls sold every last of their t-shirts and a whole lot of CDs owed to the fact that they actually mucked in personally and threw themselves into the lots of huge Europeans that surrounded them at the merch stand in a tremendously sympathic manner - despites all the language troubles. Hopefully they got to even out the tour cost for the day with so much love from their fans.
The evening went to an end for the guests who would have to work on wednesday and those who had already planned in a quick after-show beer alike: With a big smile and at a decent time that allowed the everyone to still go and have one drink before they had to call it a day and wake up in the morning.
